I feel like I learned so much about you and this tiny little town in one article! How fascinating and how strange.

I’m glad to hear that. I deleted the personal stuff so many times…… being psychologically naked is terrifying but I’m glad I did it.

Thank you, it means the world. I hope I can write something that re produces this reaction sometime in the future.

To start, the title of this piece is perfect. Second, the way decay slowly becomes absorbed into the landscapes you describe… wow. The overturned boats, the flooded ship with the windmill pump, the burned cottage, even the conversations in the car: everything feels suspended in this strange state between survival and collapse. Really compelling and eerily atmospheric. So grateful to have found a fellow travel writer on here. Keep it coming!

thank you for the kind words, it means a lot. It was a strange trip in ways that are hard to explain in a coherent way. I’ve been to remote parts of the middle east where I’ve felt less out of my element than I did in this strange little hamlet. It was violating not being able to hide behind the identity of being a foreigner in a strange land.
